North Shore-LIJ Health System is the nation’s second largest integrated secular health system. North Shore-LIJ, which serves 7 million people at 15 hospitals in the greater New York City metropolitan area, is one of New York State’s largest employers with more than 42,000 employees. North Shore-LIJ embarked on a comprehensive program to introduce environmentally responsible programs and operating practices across its operations when it formed a partnership with the US EPA and published it in a memorandum of understanding. North Shore-LIJ retained The Sexton Company to advise, consult, help implement, educate and communicate the aims of its sustainability initiative to all the health system’s stakeholders.
